Annual C&O Edu-GIRLS Walk-a-thon

  • Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center 11710 MacArthur Blvd Potomac, MD, 20854 USA (map)

Please join us on Sunday, September 22nd, at the C&O Canal in Great Falls MD as we raise funds to educate young girls living in poverty and to steer them towards financial independence and empowerment.

Our unique model supports our students from KG to high school and there after sponsors college scholarships and vocational training.  We seek to understand the challenges these girls face, and find ways to overcome the barriers in their way to financial independence. This includes charging no fees, having flexible school schedules (so that the girls can fulfill their responsibilities at home and also receive an education), providing adequate nutrition and warm clothing, safe transportation to and from school, quality education with built in technology support, incentives to stay and finish and vocational/college scholarships. It takes just $300.00 to educate a girl for a year.

Walk at your own pace for 1, 2 or 4 miles.!

Consider Kanchan, a young girl living in a slum in Jaipur. Her fate would have been limited schooling and an early marriage if Edu-GIRLS hadn't stepped in. By supporting her education with just $300.00 a year, Edu-GIRLS sponsored Kanchan until she graduated from high school and trained as a beautician. Today she is independent and supports herself and her family.
